No sooner than
after yesterdays repair did I discover that the hood would no longer completely shut, aka double latch shut
. Quite annoyed, I asked my neighbor for help (my opening line was “
ever do
any of your own car repairs before?”
“No” “Would you like to practice
on someone else’s car?”). W
e removed the hood and sledgehammered the lip of the hood flat enough to properly close it. Only to find out the hinge for the hood on the passenger’s side is bent backwards and won’t completely shut. -_-.
Oh well, I can now legally
drive the car and not worry about the hood flying up. Will get a junkyard hinge within a week or so. The growing pains of car repairs, right?

Still cheaper than buying a new car!

So far I’m in this
$25 and 3-4 hours of manual labor. Way cheaper than a new car.

another hinge, maybe some paint to touch up where the paint is cracked too

This is how you learn! I’d say you’re doing great!

Apparently the plastic bracket that I just put in is super sturdy when bolted in. I had to double check there wasn’t metal underneath. I played with it for a good ten minutes because it DID work, but now wouldn’t shut.

I’m technically coming up to the age where I’m legally allowed to have a midlife crisis. Since the American economy is crap and I can’t afford anything cool, I’m seriously considering just plastidipping the hood to black and pretending
I have a cool muscle sedan. It’s like meeting halfway or something, right?

sounds like a plan to me

Thanks! It’s interesting seeing how the front end is put together.

Eh, all in all you've made out pretty well!

Yeah, I know that feel as well. I needed to fix two things on my car this weekend. Failed at both. My HVAC vents are still stuck, and now I have two LED lights out in my gauge cluster,
instead of the one I had before I “fixed” it. I’m beginning to think my car hates me.

If its a led that is e
mbedded into the circuitry, good luck! You might have to replace the whole board and hope it isnt VIN encoded!

Pricing eveything out at RockAuto it was $311~. I’ve spend a grand
total of $25 so far, I'm really proud of that, lol.

GM puts their front ends together with hopes, dreams, and a shitload of little plastic clips. Oh and a pair or two 10mm bolts.
I had the nose off my Cadillac CTS-V and STS som many times, i didn’t even have to raise the front end to pull all the clips and get the bolts off. I can only assume the Pontiac’s clip is similar configuration.
You’re doing great though so far. Gotta learn sometime. Or spend a bunch of money to have someone else do it for you.
